Portraiture has a long tradition in my childhood
home. I grew up watching my mother paint portraits
while I practiced my piano; meanwhile my army father’s
photographs of people and events were concise and
told a story. Between the traditions of Europe and
the innovations of the Group of Seven, I have been
influenced by exciting paintings on two continents.
In painting portraits,
the necessary resemblance is a given. What is
truly important to me is the spirit of the individual.
A person you know has to look out of the frame,
or contemplate life within the picture’s own space.
A “collage”
of images can surround the main subject, or individuals
can be combined in a family grouping. A person
can be depicted at different times of their life,
or combined with objects and symbols of their
achievements and loves.
- A special gift for a special achievement
- Memories of an old friend
- A rich home or office focal point
- A family heirloom investment
- A corporate memorial
Nearing completion of the portrait, you have the
opportunity to let me know if I need to make adjustments
to capture the subject. You can also request to
see a rough plan of a portrait, especially when
there are multiple subjects in the picture. |
