I have been painting horse portraits for over thirty years. As a teenager, my childish image of fantasy companions evolved into a deeper respect for the willingness and patience of horses. I found character in the look kindness and unknowable depth in their eyes, combined with the spirit and energy in horses’ prancing legs and arched necks.

A horse portrait can be as simple as a carefree unbridled head, or as formal as a dressage portrait with rider. Landscape can be included, or the background can be left a complementary haze. A “collage” of images can surround the main subject, or they can be combined in a family grouping.
