Welcome to my gallery of Fine Art. While working in several different mediums, there are several themes that recur in my paintings.
- Equuessense: This ongoing series expresses my fascination with the form of the horse. I have focused on an isolated part of the horse’s body, treating it as a landscape or even an abstract element. While removing context from the animal’s expected form, I try to increase one’s awareness of the experience of the horse. In this area, I often work very large, in varying degrees of abstraction.
- Bogs and Marshes: I am fascinated with simple bits of landscape. The meeting of water and land produces wonderful layers of vegetation, wild and uncultivated. These areas express to me the miracle of decay and rebirth. There is so much colour, with underlying hues making the simplest hummock and murk alive and complex. Pastel is wonderful for the multiple layers of colours.
- Still life: There is nothing more timeless than a collection of old objects, some fruit, and a bit of carefully placed light. Here is the opportunity to explore a variety of textures from rough and weathered to shiny and clear, with colour schemes ranging from boisterous to subdued. Everyday objects take on significance when selected and arranged, possibly telling a story.
